The Children's Lawyer will select qualified lawyers from across Ontario to provide independent legal representation to children in custody and access and child protection matters before the Court. The governing legislation for these matters is the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Divorce Act, the Children's Law Reform Act, and the Courts of Justice Act.

Compensation is on a fee-for-service basis and is at par with Legal Aid Ontario rates.
